As a TA, you may or may not have the ability to edit the settings for the assignment in question, so if you don't have these options you'll have to ask your professor to do this. Basically you follow these steps:

  1. Turn editing on for the course in question.
  2. Navigate to the assignment, which should now have an edit option among various icon options displayed adjacent  to it.
  3. Choose Edit.
  4. Navigate to the option Email Alerts to Teachers which appears under Upload File. By default this is OFF so apparently your professor specifically turned it on.
  5. Turn off the option and save the results.
